Happy Birthday Switzerland! Happy Birthday BB!!
We had a happy little party on Saturday, to celebrate both events. We had the party on the 31st because in the town that we live in, they do the fireworks the night before, since everyone has the 1st off from work but no other days. That way, people can stay up late and not be super tired the next day.
First some friends who live a few hours away dropped by since they were in town. Their son is seven (or perhaps eight) and he and BB got along very well and had lots of fun playing together.
They also have a little girl. She’s one of the biggest one and a half year olds I’ve ever seen. Chunky and cute! She was born a few months after our last visit so it was very nice to meet her.
Later, after they left, our other guests arrived. In all we were seventeen. My grandparents, my uncle, aunt and Cousin (!!!), Tante , and her daughter and her family.
Some of you may know that Tante’s husband passed away very suddenly earlier this year. I didn’t know him very well, but he was my dad’s godfather and their family is like family to ours. We had hoped to be able to say goodbye, but that’s not what the Lord had planned for us. In any case, we all missed him.
Tante must have held Cousin for at least an hour, if not more! Each time he grabbed at her necklace, or shirt, my grandmother would say, “Oh, I’ll take him!” And each time Tante refused to give him up. It was so funny to watch!
My Uncle blowing up balloons.
Aren’t they adorable?
Then she saw me…
Despite that, we became good friends and she chattered away to me, in French! She speaks amazingly well for a two and a half year old.
For supper we had tacos and fajitas. Yum!
Oh, and do you see that bowl with the yellow stuff in it? Cheddar! Expensive cheddar but cheddar none the less. Someone didn’t know what it was, and he doubted that it was even cheese! These poor, deprived Swiss people.
Five desserts… This is the Strawberry/Currant Meringue cake made by Tante.
The Chocolate Roll Up cake in front, and the Kirsch Cake in the back. We also had a Flan (missing an accent) and fruit salad. Tante made three of them (she’s settled down over the years), my grand mother made the chocolate cake, and my uncle the fruit salad.
Make a wish!
All in one blow!
After that we went out on the balcony to watch the fireworks. It was about ten so according to the flyer, we had to wait half and hour. But some of us had heard 10:45, and they finally went off at 11:00. We’d almost given up and gone in when they started.
They were beautiful and almost as long as Bellevue’s, which is incredible for a town of this size!
