After a year of so much change and busyness, going back to the Island was like going home all over again. Walking through the rooms where so little has changed in the past century, that haven't been tainted with computers or phones or televisions, was a calming balm on our aching hearts. It's something we do every year, we pack our car to bursting and leave. And as we drive off the ferry, our worries and cares disappear. It's a yearly ritual.

On the Island, it's sometimes easier to examine ourselves and our lives than it is with the distractions of day-to-day life. I know I've had revelations each time I've gone.

It's also the time of year we have reserved purely to hang out with the cousins. And that's exactly what we did.  A few of us made a little movie, in keeping with tradition, we hiked in the woods, visited the farmer's market, slept late, toasted ourselves next to the woodstove, went on numerous treasure hunts, read books and just generally spent time being lazy.

Oh, and drinking Izze of course! Whenever we go to the local resort for the open mic, we get Izze. Another tradition.

Add beachcombing and kyaking to the mix and you're on!

This year we had several familes come up and join us and it was lots of fun to show them around the old haunts.

Most of us went back on the same ferry and we had lots of fun taking pictures, eating candy and standing in the wind. Our time out there is always refreshing and I'm so glad we went despite the fact that we don't have much time Stateside.
