a blustery day in the hundred acre wood

It's blustery today. Drops of rain fall every so often and the wind plays havoc with everything. I find myself playing tug-of-war with my umbrella (That I actually have one out is rather ironic in itself. Where I come from, when we see someone with an umbrella, we know they're a tourist. We locals are just so accustomed to the rain.) as I watch the trees dance in the wind. On my way into town I saw the  river, swollen nearly over its banks.

Almost everyone I talked to told me they were tired of the weather and it's effects, true that it can make one feel a bit down in the spirits but for me? When I step out into that tempest I feel free. It reminds me of sitting in the prow of a sailboat or standing on the Pacific coast. It makes me feel as if I can go anywhere, do anything. As the wind whips my hair around my head, it blows through my mind, cleaning out the cobwebs. My heart leaps up and my spirit goes free.

The wind chilled to the bone and by the time I got home I was cold and my hair was damp. I stepped inside and was instantly sheltered from the storm. I still love the wind, but I love it even more when I come home to twinkling lights and hot chocolate and cookies.

  3. hmm...I'm the same way about storms. I'd much rather go umbrella-less, and I LOVE standing outside when it rains hard. (in the summer, that is!)
