la France profonde

We spent last weekend with friends in southeastern France. Arising in the morning to grey skies and hot, heavy weather, the ensuing thunderstorms were a blessing, and the brilliant sunsets at the end of the day all the more appreciated. We wandered through the nearby town, ate off of blue china, visited the local flea market (and came home with, well, let's just say some of us struck gold), played games, ran barefoot, watched the Olympics until early in the morning (and cheered for every American, French or Swiss athlete), drank tea, and read and read - and read. If you ever have the chance to visit this little corner of France, do go. It's the hidden away part of the country one doesn't find in the travel guide books, which makes it that much better.
