la chapelle de Ronchamp
For
as long as I can remember, on the wall of our library back home, there
has always been a picture of a man standing in front of an oddly-shaped
white building. Turns out, now that we live on the other side of world,
that building is forty-five minutes away from us. So this weekend, we
went and visited. Built after the Second World War, in a time where
non-conventional buildings, especially for a chapel, were a thing
unheard of, la chapelle de Notre-Dame-du-Haut was quite the phenomenon.
Today, it stands on a hill over looking the village of Ronchamp, a white
beacon to visitors from all over the world who come to see the church
that was built in a turning of the times.
