the cousins

We are a noisy and blessed little family.
--Nancy E. Turner

One blessing of the past three years has been watching these two grow up. When we arrived, there was only one: a chubby blond six-month-old baby, who stared at us in wonder with big brown eyes that were to us like magic. Last year, in the middle of snowstorm, his brother was born. That child is blond blond blond, and a blue-eyed wonder in his dark-eyed family.

So now, there are two. The little baby is a big boy, whose hair has darkened and who squeezes us in bear hugs between his strong three-year-old arms, and the baby learned how to walk last month and so has crossed the threshold into boyhood. They laugh and talk and know what's what. They like making loud noises and throwing balls and riding tractors and being in charge, but they are very good at snuggling on the couch and giving hugs. Their home is a construction zone, they like taking risks, and there is always a question being asked. They are silly, they are loud, they are boys.

We love these two little miracles.
