going home (all I can write about these days)

“But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.”
 C.S. Lewis, The Last Battle

When I travel, my destination is nearly always a piece of home. I love the adventure in traveling and going some place loved, even if the trip is exhausting and makes me crabby sometimes. Those journeys give me glimpses and tastes of what going Home will be like after a long journey here on earth. Going Home will be the last hard journey, and we will arrive at heaven's gates exhausted from life but full of immense joy, too! What a trip! What a homecoming!

We'll go to the library in the city of things made new, and find the books telling the stories of our lives.

"The cover of these books are beautiful," I'll say.
"Yes! And the title pages, too!" you'll return.

And then we'll close the books and set forth on the Adventure that comes afterward, known only to God, more vivid and real than anything we could have imagined.

  1. Yes. Just yes. This makes my heart smile, and I don't think there's really anything more wonderful to think about. :)
